Twaddle

Apparently now we 'need' a Celebration Ring'. This is how desperate luxury item retailers have become. Using babies and life itself, in a bid to try and hock their over priced crap to us. I spent more money conceiving my child that this ring would cost, and NOTHING is more precious than life itself. This ad is from 'The Sydney Magazine' a free monthly in the The Sydney Morning Herald, every second page is an ad for luxury goods. Times are tough all over, it's offensive on every level, and should be renamed 'The Eastern Suburbs Magazine' and only distributed in the Eastern Suburbs. The magazine just shits me to tears, and if anything could convince me to move to Victoria, this magazine well could!! With it's articles being as vacuous and superficial as the city itself.

I'm a cynical old bag sometimes, but when something shits me this much, I just have to let it out!

Collage by Little P

She gets me to write speech bubbles in her drawings.
That's her and I under the big umbrella, it rained for 2 weeks in Sydney so that brolly features quite a bit in her art.
The robot on the left is saying "I love Flamingos" and the flamingo to his right is saying "I love you too robot".

Paper Cut-Out Design

I found this great book at the oppy today. Full of lovely images, and a how-to section, I fancy trying to do some paper cut-out design of my own.

I really love the Swiss ones, like the one with the tree and deers, the detail is amazing!

Box Brownie = fun!

Big D bought some film, and a light meter for his camera, which is at least 40 years old, and the result is the best colour photos, even the colour of Little P's lips is spot on. You just can't get colour like this with a digital camera. It even picked up the paint spot on the dress I made her, with vintage cotton!

Stay tuned for more fun with the camera, as we plan escapades around Sydney.
We are going to the old Gladesville Psychiatric Hospital grounds on the weekend, amazing grounds, which I'm sure will be redeveloped into ugly units soon.

Orejitas A Cuadro. La fiesta de Disfraces.

Such a cute video. Vingtage, Hungarian. I wish I had a bunny like this!

I am shell shocked by the complete devastation, and loss of so many lives from the Victorian bush fires.
My own 'worries' just seem so insignificant, they are insignificant.
I feel lucky to have the people I love still with me.
I just can not imagine.
I feel lucky to have this frangipani growing outside the front gate,
it's not 'our' tree, we didn't plant it, it's quite old, it belongs to everyone, and I hope that everyone who walks by it gets the same sense of hope and renewal that I get when I look at it.
The wonderful Curlypops has listed some links on her blog with information on all the different ways you can help - go there now if you want to help out in a handmade kind of way. I've bought one of her gorgeous bags, with a percentage of the sale price being donated to the Red Cross.

Handmade Homegrown

Hamming it up in the garden, and sewing for a heatwave.
This is my favourite skirt, I made it with 4 tiers of fabric,
floor length.
I like to call it 'channelling Janis'
very cool in this boiling heat.
And .... we grew some whopping big tomatoes!!
They are the only thing loving this heat. Can't complain too much about it, cause it's been
hotter in Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra.
To my friends in those states:
ETSY, e-bay and Woolworths home shop!
Hope it cools down all over soon.
