Most Recent Art Find

I found a flyer for this exhibition this morning in Balmain. I'm very taken with it, and will be going to this exhibition. All the paintings are cropped like this - I like it, but can see that it would bother some people - how do you feel about it? The artist is Sophie Gralton, exhibition on at: gallery aloft, 660 Darling St, Rozelle, for those of you in Sydney. (30/07/08) More here: www.galleryaloft.com

Some Drafting Required

I'm sharing this great kids summer dress pattern, should be printable from my blog? Will need drafting to size, and the instructions are really easy. I'm going to make one up for summer, sans pocket, and maybe not in an evening. I like the way it ties at the back and it sort of pleated, actually I like everything about this little dress (except the pocket)!
Let me know if you want to print this off, but are unable to, and I'll work something out. Also, please let me know if you make one, so I can have a look at your creation!

Done, blurry photo taken to show you! Just needs to be delivered now - does look better in person, without the shadows and blur.....but you get the idea.
Andi from Superminx commented on the mushroom fabric, and mentioned that she'd like to make some pants in this fabric, if her thighs could handle the extra attention. The pants she described made me think of these (from Golden Hands Monthly) Am I on the right track Andi?! These are definitely the right thighs for these pants, I adore them (the pants that is) but on me? ..... mmm, maybe with 2o inch heels on!!

brrrrr

My, it's cold in the Eastern part of Australia at the moment!
I'm working on this pinni, as shown above, it's cut out and ready to be sewn, plain blue is the back, it's a bit cold in my work room at the mo, and all the heaters are busy being used else where in the house! It reassures me though that it's been cut!
I've been collecting these plastic, vintage knitting needles for a while now, in preparedness for when I have a spare life-time in which to knit!
Until then, I'll keep adding to them, and display them, much better than flowers,
no water, no mess.
The colours are so vibrant, just found the orange ones today!
I've heard tell of a method in which you can turn them into bangles, does anyone know how to do this? I imagine they would need to be soaked in boiling water and then wound around something the size of your average wrist???

Oh, and have you visited Leni & Rose for your blogging tips this week?

Love those tips and tricks!

Home Journal = High Love

This is the first time I've seen inside a 'Home Journal', this one, from March 1965, was $2 at the Oppy. I'm really glad I found it. I've seen them on e-bay, but had no idea what was inside. I can feel a new addiction coming on! I love the interiors and the fashions, I'm not so keen on all of the content, but find it amusing.

Thrifted Heaven!

A fabric fanciers dream come true, and just as I was loosing faith in my Op Shop! It's had a renovation, and the prices have gone up, fabric has been thin on the ground, and then I found this! It's printed on both sides, and is a heavy cotton/canvas, my favourite panel is the little girl with her dog feeding the chickens. It fits perfectly across Little P's door, but that involves big D getting the drill out!

Pink

1. http://flickr.com/photos/53473996@N00/36947775/">pink poodle sign, 2. 1970's" child's bedroom See, I'm not adverse to the odd bit of pink! I'm so down with this 70's kid's room, you rarely see textiles used in this way in modern interiors, it's a shame really. I'll always take curtains over blinds any day!

1975 - Stamp from Israel

psychedelic arbor day stamp from israel 1975 Originally uploaded by Grain Edit.com

I'm playing this game, with Pip and Co.
Type a year into Flickr, then choose a photo from that year to post to your blog.

I'm really taken with this stamp, the colours, the design -I just love it, I do harbour a secret passion for stamps, I can really see why people become such avid collectors. Not only are they a great sign of the times, they are probably the smallest little art works in our lives. I really don't need to start collecting anything else, but I do have two little books full of Aussie stamps from the 60's and 70's, that I just couldn't bare to leave at the Oppy!

Red and Purple

I made this reversible, wrap skirt for Little P's Gym Teacher's wee girl. My way of saying 'thanks! She runs a great out-of-school Gymnastics Camp, and Parker had a great time there today, She's the sweetest girl around for doing this in the school hols, all the kids just love her to bits, and I'd be pulling my hair out today if it weren't for Gym Camp!!

Inspired by this bit of vanity floating around in blogland, I thought I'd share with you where I was 10 years ago. I was working and living at the Iron Duke Hotel, in Alexandria, Sydney. It was also where I met Big D, he owned the pub at the time and had just turned it into a live venue. We had bands on 5 nights a week and a bistro that operated through the day. I'll always remember the first time I met Big D, I was living with a girl who was the sister of one of his friends, she'd mentioned to me that her brother's friend had just bought the Iron Duke and was looking for staff. So I went in to see him, and from the moment I shook his hand, I knew I liked him. He gave me a job, and then 2 years later a wedding ring - how sweet!! Some of the bands playing the week this photo was taken: 78 Saab Scum of the Earth Skulker Jonestown So.... what were you doing 10 years ago?

The Wrap Dress

We're going to a Christening in a couple of weeks, so I'm making this wrap dress, the one with puffed sleeves and contrasting collar. The fabric hasn't really photographed very well, it's a vintage silk, has a gorgeous drape to it. If it all goes to plan I'll take some pics on the day, oh what the heck, if I cock it up, I'll take pics too, just for a laugh.

Flashback Friday - The Roadtrip

This photo really makes me laugh! It was taken on one of our road trips in Africa, and my brother and I quite obviously are busting to go to the loo - but Mum has decided she'd get a quick photo on first! Hilarious, I've got my hand fair up my skirt and my brother is actually holding the end of his willy, and our faces are all distorted, I mean, who can smile when they really just need to pee this bad?! Thanks Angela for bringing back Flashback Friday!
